Dear Freshman-to-Be Sister | 100 Things To Do at Mizzou

As a graduate, that still around this College Town, USA, I just want to make sure you know to take full advantage of the college life before you graduate. Once you do, everything is less awesome. Here are the things I want to make sure you do...

Sooooo. This poster came out. Really more for the purpose of promoting all the things Mizzou has to offer, but it's a good marketing technique to do so. Give them a list and they will retain information. I just thought it was interested. Here's the list, with my comments. Bolded things are things I have down...

1. Take a walk on the MKT Trail - ...or a bike ride.


2. Grab a slice at Shakespeare's
3. Eat at El Rancho after 2 a.m.
4. Meet a new friend at the Midnight BBQ - I went, alright. We don't have to make best friends everywere in this town!
5. Go sink karaoke at Eastside Tavern - "Blister in the Sun", Violent Femmes


6. Laugh at Comedy Wars in Memorial Student Union
7. Visit the Magic Tree in the winter


8. Shout "I LOVE MIZZOU" in Speakers Circle three times - Yeah, that the PG version...


9. Sit with Zou Crew or Tiger's Lair at an athletic event


10. Go to Tap Day - I do wish I'd done this...
11. Watch PHA's Bid Day on the Quad


12. Visit Devil's Icebox - A must. Great hike to a cool place.


13. See the Vagina Monologues
14. Take a nap in the basement of the Student Center - Many times. Nothing prepares you for a test better...
15. Be in the Coming Out Day photo
16. Go to an away football game - #rockytoproadtrip


17. Pick up a free newspaper through the Readership Program
18. Explore the two free museums on the Quad - I'm one for two on this one...
19. Rub David R. Francis' nose before an exam
20. Hear the underwater stereo system int eh Rec's Aquatic Center
21. Attend a NPHC Step Show
22. Donate some extra food to Tiger Pantry
23. Stay and Sing the Alma Mater after a football game - Yeah, before I realized I HATE attending football games.


24. Go to a concert at the Blue Note - Lovvvvve it.


25. Participate in the Alcohol Responsibility Month walk
26. Call or volunteer for STRIPES
27. Attend Rockin' Against Multiple Sclerosis Rock It
28. Join a student organization
29. Vote in a student body election
30. Learn the fight song and Alma Mater
31. Walk through the Columns at Tiger Walk


32. Go to an event at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center
33. Get lost in Ellis Library - Clever way to phrase this.
34. Attend a DSA concert or speaker in Jesse Auditorium - Do musicals count? They count.

36. Participate in the Homecoming Parade

37. Take a photo with Truman

That counts, right? I know I have a photo with the real one.
I'm just not sure where it is.
38. Apply for Mizzou '39 as a senior.
39. Eat Tiger Stripe Ice Cream - Bonus point
40. White wash the rock M on Faurot Field - This is a trick.
41. Walk across the bridge at Peace Park
42. Shake hands with the Chancellor
43. Meet an alum that inspires you - My mom or dad...or grandma...my grandpa...nana...bob...my aunts...uncles...


44. Go to the RSVP Center's Green Dot training
45. Look at the mounted animals outside Conservation Auditorium - Hard to miss 'em.
46. Attend an event at the Missouri Theatre
47. Take a photo with friends in front of the Columns


48. Tailgate before a footballgame


49. Lift in the Pump Room at the Rec - I'd rather not.
50. Have a blast at Dance Marathon or Relay for Life


51. Join a pick up game on Stankowski Field - Football in the snow...epic.
52. Take a stroll through Greektown
53. Have a Writing Lab tutor look over an essay
54. Make a snowman on the Quad - Yeah, I should've done that.
55. Get a free T-shirt on Lowry Mall - Oooooh just one or two...
56. Take a drive out to Cooper's Landing - I need to do this. I'm doing this.
57. Read a Beetle Bailey cartoon in The Shack
58. Write a Letter to the Editor of The Maneater
59. Visit the Subway in Pershing Hall at 4 a.m.
60. Relax in the lazy river in Tiger Grotto
61. Write an anonymous "thank you" note to a professor
62. Meet with an Involvement Ambassador
63. Got to a free Crafternoon at the Craft Studio - THIS IS A MUST. Free crafts. Every Friday. Best thing ever...
64. Walk back through the Columns at Senior Sendoff

65. Attend the Wreath Laying Ceremony at Memorial Student Union
66. Pick up trash on East Campus - Technically...I've picked up trash in my yard, so that counts.  Otherwise, I would NOT recommend this. 50% of East Campus trash are nasty used condoms.
67. Study at Kaldi's
68. Discover your new favorite artist on KCOU
69. Go to a free film from the DSA Films Committee


70. Visit three student organization at the Mizzou Activities Mart
71. Voice a concern to your student government
72. Vote in the Columbia election
73. Watch the sunset during dinner ont he Heidelberg's patio
74. Make a button for your backpack in the Women's Center
75. Help a lost freshman with directions
76. Visit the Big Tree - ...to see where your parents got engaged :)
77. See a movie at the True/False Film Festival
78. Attend the Roots N' Blues N' BBQ Festival - I have always wanted to.
79. Go to campus decorations (the Friday night before Homecoming)


80. Pull an "all-nighter"
81. Read a book on the Columns on a sunny day - One of the best things to do.
82. Try to be the first to arrive and last to leave at a football game - I'd rather be dead.
83. Become a True Tiger
84. Wait in line for a "Beat" T-shirt - Well, I found one. So I'm counting it.
85. Wake up at an absurdly early time for basketball ticket pick-up - Again, death is preferable.
86. Start an "MIZ" chant - Ultimate "MIZ" chant started by Lindsey Lehman at our Bolivar High  School graduation after giving her speech. Good one, Linds.
87. Play a round of pool and grab a burger at Booche's - A MUST.
88. Sit in one fo the couches while you see a movie at Ragtag - You have to, duh.
89. Conquer the Callaway Farms Corn Maze
90. Catch up with an old friend at Harpo's - I like how they phrased it "catch up with" instead of "drunkenly become best friends with."


91. Grab dollar burgers on a Sunday at Campus Bar and Grill - Good one. Don't forget the waffle fries.
92. Buy a Mizzou shrit on a Black & Gold Friday at the Mizzou Store
93. Participate in a MizzouDiversity Summit
94. Rent a bike through BikeShare
95. Watch MUTV - Or be on it once. Double points.
96. Listen to a speech in Speakers Circle - Some of them you just can't ignore #brotherjed.
97. Set up an appointment with the Office for Financial Success - No.
98. Go to the International Bazaar
99. See the dome on Jesse Hall lit up green for Engineering Week
100. Get advice from the Career Center

There are some other things I think I would include...another day, another blog post.
