DIY: Skinny Cheetah Belt

I have long been on the hunt for a skinny cheetah belt. Mostly because Sydney has one, but also some other people:

This is Sydney.

So anyway. That cheetah print belt is fabulous...and fabulously hard to find/expensive. Solution? Refashion an old, ugly belt. What's fun about this DIY is that first I do something horrible, then I learn and craft it better. Problems solving m'kers. We all make mistakes. So you might as well learn from mine.

The first time I tried this, I used cheetah print paper. It worked on the sunglasses, but the belt need a little more flexibility. See here...

 Materials Needed for Failure:
- old, ugly belt
- shades
- cheetah print paper
- modge podge
 1. So part of this failure included me cutting the paper into strips.

 2. Then I modge podged the paper to the belt.

 3. On both sides...

 4. Aaaand this is why it was a failure. That stinkin' paper will break. As it did.

However! It did work on my shades. The surface was much better for modge podging. If you do undertake the sunglasses project, you'll want to cut the paper roughly around the shape of the arms. Like so...

Now. To do it right...

 1. Now we need cheetah print FABRIC...eh?! See. Problem solvers. That's what we are.

Great thing about cheetah print fabric from Walmart...you can get one PIECES for just 30 stinkin' cents. Just ridiculous. Side note, when I was buying this, there was a guy working the fabric counter who was hitting on me so hard. We talked about how he built his own TV antenna with his new soldering gun and he ordered this new phone for only $50. Rob, nice guy...

 2. So now we cut the fabric into thin strips and modge podge them, like with the paper.

 3. The edges don't quite stay as well as the paper, so you'll need a thin line of fabric glue along the edges.

4. One of the hardest parts is the end where the buckle is. I just carefully cut smaller pieces and used mostly glue to wrap the shape. It holds fine once you've got it situated.

5. As far as the holes, well, if you just puncture the needle of the belt through where the hole is it will poke through the fabric pretty easily.

Aaaaaand there she is :) Pretty good right?

Weekend Update

It's been an eventful one. Friday started slowly with a lazy morning  consisting solely of a burned CD project for my roomies. A Finals Study mix. The afternoon quickly turned wild when Kyle called and needed help with a shotsbook page. This happens sometimes. When girls ask boys to make them a page and boys are completely helpless...they have to call upon their crafty female friends. Kyle and I whipped up a page in return for his driving me on some errands.

Then it was over to Theta to help set up for CASA. The decorations were beautiful and colorful (good work Kallie Brown)! Everything was running smoothly, sans the small (not small), easy (not easy) adventure in finding cheese sauce. There was a small miscommunication which resulted in their being no cheese sauce. However, Lexi Hayob and I took care of it right away. Let there be cheese sauce!

I came home after that and watched Tinker Toy Tailor Truck Turquoise Tadpole Spy. And though I tried to convince Rachel and Trever to go out, they weren't having it...as usual. However, I ended up going to a John Anderson concert with some guys. John Anderson. How do I end up at these things?? The night ended with Joe Dirt, which I had actually never seen before (shameful) and some sweet text from Logan at Mi CASA:

It says "I hearts you" ...he's a darling.

I woke up Saturday morning at like 9AM, surprisingly. I worked on a study guide while watching Parks and Recreation. At noon, Abbie and I met up with the rest of the Theta Wiffle Ball Team and headed over to Fiji's philanthropy. We dominated...obviously...and had a great time playing ball, eating hamburgers and jamming on a yellow Jeep in the frattiest way possible.

The rest of Saturday consisted of room cleaning and study guides with the window open and the raining exploding out of the sky. It was very lovely.

So then it gets to be 6PM...which is plan making time. It is my job--as the Casablanca Social Coordinator--to plan, organize, inform members about and execute all events we participate in. It's a dirty job...but I love it. And so I start initiating a plan: dinner and beers at McNally's, then on to Shiloh and wherever from there. The first rule of plan making: if drinking is involved, do not try to plan anything past 11PM.  I text the invitees: Taylor, Allie, Kallie, Rachel, Abbie and I on the east side of campus, and Trever, who takes care of the west side including Rick, Tyler and Katie. We meet up at McNally's at 8PM and the fun begins. I don't know what the quality is so awful, but I've included the pics as well...

This entire morning was spent editing those pictures and putting together that video...hahaha. Finals? What finals? But I promise that now I'll buckle down and get somethings done for next week.

DESIGN: Mizzou Joins the SEC

FRONT

BACK

Soooo. Here is some design I'm pretty proud of. I'm really very excited about our planned road trip to Knoxville, TN for the football game. We talked about making shirts and I hopped right on board. The above design is inspired by this:

I found it while search for some Southern-Preppy inspiration.I wanted to use pastel colors, to further incorporate the Fratty Prep, but still feel a little Mizzou spirit with the light yellow and black. I made the bowtie, football and pawprint in Illustrator, which is NOT my strong suit, so I'm pretty proud about those.

The only issue will be getting the boys to wear them...

Some Small Things Noticed

VIDEO
Where Good Ideas Come From
An incredibly illustrated video, centered around an equally incredible message. Justification for social media, encouragement for peer interaction...it's lovely.

ARTICLE
What the cup you're holding says about you
I hate to bring this up again, but I just love this article so damn much. It's cleverly inspired and perfectly written. I want to buy this author a drink (in whatever cup he so chooses). So while I'm noticing things, I just thought I'd make sure you noticed this.

WEBSITE
My Font: What the Font?!
Oh my lord, look at this font...I love it...I want it...how will I ever know what it is?! Take a quick screen shot of the text and upload it here. The site will tell you What the Font?! is. I mean, you have to buy most of them if you want them. But it's still a cool trick to know.

ARTIST
James Blake
I was just listening along through some random playlist I found somewhere and this song started playing. Really deep and almost bluesy. Then the chorus kicks in and my ears exclaim, WHAT THE--? It's like this sick vibration and I love it. It's not really my style usually, but it's just weird enough to keep me interested. The rest of his music turns out to be equally trippy and great to study with...just in time for finals.

DESIGN
Resumes
Apparently, it's totally cool and highly appropriate to design crazy awesome resumes when your job happens to be relevant to design. Who would have though. Anyway, I'm just now adjusting to this whole breaking the rules of professionalism and I'm in love with these:

Don't you worry...I'll post mine as soon as I figure out what I want it to look like.

Welcome to the SEC: Part 2

What to wear? WHAT TO WEAR?

Let's talk SEC clothing. Here are the photos I've collected online. There are a variety of different styles going on, but I'll let you pick for yourself:

Color-related sundresses with sandals. Girl on the right, rockin' those croakies.

Almost business casual.

Legs and boots.

Again with the sunglasses. Apparently you are free to reveal as much cleavage as necessary.

Georgia. Huh. Lauren Brewer tells me this get-up will NOT fly in the SEC. But chose for yourself.

Notice the white buttons. Idk why? But they say something like: Theta loves our Tigers. I'm probably going to order them so we don't get left out of the loop.

Goin' for the more casual jersey tops.

This looks more like old Mizzou style. Cute though!

Aaaawh and the sunhat. There is no WAY people actually wear these right?? I mean. I have a black one if it becomes clear I need to bust it out.

And some great Polyvore to help piece together things.

Mostly, you see the sun-dresses in your school colors, heavily accessorized with strappy-sandals or cowboy boots. Since finding a black and gold dress can be difficult, I suggest focusing on gold accessories: belts, jewelry, cardigans, hair-pieces. Blah blah. Here's what I did:

Wow. It's totally creepy to see that many versions of yourself. But anyway. I basically stuck to black, gold, gray and while. Black shoes, belted. I think the essentials for being in the SEC include:
- pearls
- cowboy boots
- sun dresses
Otherwise, it's just a matter of mixing up the golds and blacks. Hey. Tell me how much you love that gray and gold dress....? GAP. So perfect and can be worn to work!

I hope this has helped. Make some shopping decisions this summer in preparation for the big games. On another note, I just bought our hotel room for the MU vs. Vols game. Six girls in downtown Knoxville, TN for two nights...with our favorite Fiji boys right down the hall. Needless to say, I'm very excited!
